10 Awesome Reasons to Try Kahoot! 3 Ways It Could Be Better!

I don't know if you have tried the Kahoot! Game but my students have me hooked! I heard of it before but this year's group of students insisted that I include it in my class for review. So after I figured out how it worked, I tried it one day & my kids loved it. Below is what I have learned since the start of school (early August) about what I like & don't like about Kahoot! (This isn't a paid post so I promise, this is completely honest and my personal experience.) I have included 10 reasons you should try Kahoot! as well as 3 ways that I would like to see it improve!

If you don't know what Kahoot! is, it is an interactive game that students can play utilizing technology. A teacher creates (or finds a public Kahoot! already made) and provides students with the game code on the projector screen. Students go to the Kahoot! App on their phone or Kahoot!.it on a computer where they enter the code. Once all students have entered the game, the teacher hits start. The first question appears and then the answers appear for the amount of time the teacher specifies (5 seconds - 120 seconds). Students respond on their devices. After the time is up, the answer is shown & the winner of the question is highlighted as well as the overall game winners are listed.

Reasons to Try Kahoot!

1. It is FREE! Who doesn't love free?

2. Students LOVE using it! It is SO easy and fun!

3. You can include as many review questions as you want or just a few, which makes it great for K-12!

4. It is great for both 1:1 technology as well as enables the students to work in groups if technology isn't 1:1.

5. Music is included without having to add it. You can always silence it if you don't like it.

6. Pictures can be included in question prompts.

7. Videos can be included in question prompts.

8. There are tons of pre-made Kahoots that keep you from having to create everything from scratch.

9. Students can create their own to use with friends or classmates.

10. You can create a quiz, survey, or discussions, which gives so much variety!

3 Ways that Kahoot! Could Be Better!

1. You can't copy/paste from other documents into the questions/answer portions so you have to retype everything even if you have review questions already made. It would be great if you could easily transfer questions from existing documents.

2. The question/answer portions limit the number of characters (which is understandable) so longer questions/answers have to either be shortened or not included. It would be great to include a greater character limit.

3. It would be great if it went from one question to another without having to be prompted. This would make it easier for the teacher not to have to click the next button between questions.

You can sign up for your own Kahoot! Account HERE free. I encourage everyone to try it. It may not be for you & your students but it is free and a great way to review material in a fun way so there really aren't any drawbacks to giving it a try!

If you try it or already use it, let me know! Post in the comments what you like or don't like about it!

  2. Okay, you've convinced me :) I know that I need to add some games to my class, but I've not been creative in that way. I like that I can try Kahoot for free and that there may be some pre-made ones that could work. I'll check it out. Thanks. :)

    1. Yes, you need to check it out! My students & I are hooked. Definitely look for pre-made Kahoots and then make a copy so you can edit it how you want. I love being able to do that & save myself some time. Also, you can have your students create Kahoots as an assignment and you can play the ones they create too. My kids beg to make Kahoots if I say that I don't have time. Give it a try & definitely let me know what you think!

    1. That's why I like searching the public Kahoots. I have found some that align perfectly with what I'm needing and I can make small edits to fit it to my class. Why reinvent the wheel?! I'm all about using what is already out there!!
